Focus on right wing women

Exposing and addressing blind spots and failures of German state response to xenophobic violence and attitudes: Focus on right wing women.

Amadeu Antonio Foundation’s Expert Centre on Gender and Right Wing Extremism analyses and highlights the serious consequences of a “blind spot” in the perception of the neo-Nazi scene: the failure at many levels to recognise the role of women.

In this context, we will analyse the response by public authorities (including law enforcement and intelligence agencies), civil society and the media to incidents involving neo-Nazi women, including the trial of the alleged terrorist Beate Zschäpe.

We will examine how the “gender blindness” in policy and practice with regard to right wing extremism impacts on the effectiveness of prevention and response measures, identify necessary actions and formulate recommendations for stakeholders at different levels, including political, judicial and educational.

At a critical time in Germany, we aim to increase the awareness of the gender dimension of neo-Nazism among elected officials, policy makers, practitioners and civil society organisations active in the fight against neo-Nazism and the media.

We are planning on sharing our findings and learnings with practitioners, advocates and policy makers from across Europe, in a networking meeting scheduled for spring 2014. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us.
